Purchasing an adult diaper for the first time
Data
When you purchased an adult diaper for the first time, did you consult with anyone beforehand? Did you look up product information before you bought? Read on to find out the results of our survey of experienced buyers.
Note: All data collected from a Unicharm survey conducted between July and August of 2015 (131 respondents who have experienced urinary leaks)
About 67% of respondents consulted with someone before buying an adult diaper.
Did you consult with someone about adult diaper products before you bought them for the first time? (select all that apply)
Our survey found that most people consulted with someone beforehand, most likely because it was a new experience for them.
Respondents most commonly (38.9%) asked a family member, followed by a drugstore or supermarket employee or a doctor/nurse/assistant at a medical facility. It seems that drugstores and supermarkets that carry adult diapers have staff who are knowledgeable about product selection and features.
Around 64% of respondents researched adult diaper products in the store before buying.
Where did you do your product research before buying an adult diaper for the first time? (select all that apply)
Our survey indicated that the majority (64.1%) of respondents did their advance product research in a drugstore, supermarket, or other physical shop. It seems that most people found that actually picking up the items and looking at the packages was helpful in making the right selection.
Another 39% of respondents looked up information online (either on the manufacturer’s website or an online shopping site) before buying. The internet is certainly a convenient way to compare the many options out there or look up products that may not be on local store shelves.
Check the package to determine the size and absorbency!
What package information did you refer to when purchasing an adult diaper for the first time?
In their testimonials, many purchasers reported checking the absorbency/capacity, size, ease of getting on and off, gentleness on skin, slimness/thickness, and leak protection features on the packaging before making their first purchase.
Different products and different manufacturers put different things on their packages, which have information on the front, sides, and back. Make sure to look at it when making your selection.
